Removing Pet Odors

Preventing pet odors goes a long way to keeping your home clean. However, this can't always be done, and remedies are sometimes needed to get rid of that little“accident” on the carpet or the smell of wet dog on the couch. You're going to need a heavy duty cleaning towel like the Bully Wipe.

  • Both baking soda and color-safe bleach can be used to clear your home of smells as long as you can identify the spot where the odor is coming from. To clean it, simply pour the product directly on the offending area, cover with paper towels or a cleaning cloth and place a heavy object directly on top. Come back 20-30 minutes later and replace the cloth with a dry one. If the stain is embedded deep into the carpet or material, try scrubbing lightly with a sponge and then repeating the process again.
  • Stains that have made it through the carpet and into the padding below may require more aggressive treatment. One good way to clean them is to rent an extracting/wet vac machine (available through hardware stores, pharmacies and home improvement stores). These machines are especially designed to push clean water into the deep layers of carpet and then extract the dirt.
  • When bathing your dog, use a scented pet shampoo. Dog hair smells strongly if wet using only water. Since dogs are likely to roll on furniture or carpets after a bath, shampoos will help neutralize the odor and prevent it from getting into the upholstery.
